The coastal town of Byron Bay will soon be home to Harvest, the town’s first ever sustainable master-planned community due for completion in mid 2023.
The estate marks the first time in 30 years that a housing development has been approved for the beachside, celebrity magnet town of Byron Bay.
Energy-efficient coastal residences
Harvest by Tower Holdings will span 150 acres and feature 149 newly constructed energy-efficient dwellings.
Lot sizes are between 450sqm and 900sqm, while all homes are family sized and range from 260sqm to 365sqm and featuring a double garage.
Each home will feature the latest sustainable design details including water tanks, solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and Tesla home batteries.
Home builders Metricon and Brighton Homes are the designers behind the Harvest homes, and have focused on creating flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces in true Byron Bay style.
Ducted air conditioning, Caesarstone kitchen benchtops, Fisher & Paykel appliances and free standing baths are among the top selling points of the bespoke homes.
Outdoors, the lots include turf, driveways, a letterbox, clothesline and even a swimming pool in some.
Stage 1 of sales has already commenced, with only 10 homes remaining of the 54-home selling stage.
Green tick for environmental conservation
The development will include several drawcards for those seeking the community-oriented, environmentally friendly atmosphere including over 50,000 square metres of communal space.
Committing to sustainable planning even further, Tower Holdings has since reduced the area of native vegetation to be cleared by 49%, since the original Development Approval scheme.
A 30-metre wide strip of landscape will act as a buffer from Ewingsdale Road, in an effort to preserve the natural and private feel of the estate.
There are also plans in place to enhance the existing bushland of the site via rehabilitation works, and conserve 38.4 hectares of existing vegetation.
Included in the conservation plan is 2.9 hectares of existing frog habitat, home to the endangered species of Wallum Froglet and Wallum Sedge-Frog.
Residents will also be subject to a strict ‘no dogs and cats as pets’ policy to ensure the native wildlife populations can thrive.
Byron Bay is well known for the town’s sense of community, an aspect the Harvest estate seeks to nurture within the expansive communal space of the estate.
The estate boasts over 500,000sqm of communal open space, including three new parks, cycleways and paths.
Neighbouring Ewingsdale Road, a Community Park will be established comprising of childrens play equipment, substantial grassed area and picnic facilities. A dedicated Fitness & Relaxation Park will also provide outdoor gym equipment and exercise areas.
The residents will also be welcomed to make use of Harvest’s community centre and gardens, where fruits and vegetables can be grown for use by the entire community.
