The South Australian Government has announced that 13 of the 14 available apartments at Nightingale Bowden – a not-for-profit development – had been sold in one day.
The development features a mix of 34 one and two-bedroom apartments which were all sold off-the-plan for between $312,000 and $400,000 to eligible South Australians.
The last affordable apartment sold within a fortnight, while the remaining 20 apartments are being retained by Housing Choices Australia.
The news comes after the South Australian Government recently announced 70% of homes in another affordable home development had been sold as well.
In light of the quick sales, Michelle Lensink, the Minister for Human Services, said this represented a strong vote of confidence in the project.
“The fact that these affordable apartments quite literally flew out the door shows a clear need for this type of housing for South Australians wanting to get their foot in the door of homeownership.”

Nightingale Housing, the Melbourne-based developers, sold the apartments through a ballot process whereby applicants were required to agree to unconditional contracts as the ballots were oversubscribed.
The development is also the first Nightingale project ever undertaken in South Australia, with founder Jeremy McLeod adding he is pleased all available apartments were sold quickly to appropriate buyers.
“Around 20 per cent of the homes have been allocated to people we define as ‘key community contributors’ whose occupations are essential to the functioning of cities, but who are typically on fixed, low to moderate or casual wages.
“With a clear demand for more affordable and sustainable homes in Adelaide, we hope to return with a second project soon.
“It is a privilege to be able to collaborate with Housing Choices SA and the South Australian Government to deliver better housing for South Australians.”
