  • This week construction on Sutherland's Entertainment Centre was officially started by sod-turning ceremony
  • The project will bring major improvements to the local arts centre
  • Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2022

The show is now on the road for a new and improved entertainment centre in Sutherland with construction having started this week. In line with the dramatics of the location, construction was kicked off by an official sod-turn ceremony.

The event on Wednesday had representatives from ADCO Constructions and Root Partnerships join with Sutherland Shire Councilors to ‘break ground’ on the project.

The works are to bring many major improvements to the centre such as the refurbished theatre, new flexible rehearsal spaces and upgrades to the surrounding area.

The construction is hoped to bring a welcome boost to morale and the economy, with the area having heavily felt the impacts of COVID19. Sutherland Shire Mayor,  Steve Simpson, claims the project will not only create jobs during the construction phase but also support the performing arts sector upon completion.

“Like the many local arts and culture lovers and all those in our talented local performing arts community, I can’t wait to see these works completed and the curtains raised on a new and vastly improved Entertainment Centre next year.”

The centre has been host for many talented performers over the years. The final performance was by Australia’s Got Talent winner, Mark Vincent, along with a host of local musician for a recording of the ‘Our People, Our Places – Our Shire’ concert.

The curtains will have to remain closed for now though as works will not be completed until late next year.
