  • 42 storey tower will feature 56,000 sqm of office space with dining and retail-activated public laneways
  • Construction phase will employ approx. 2,800 on-site jobs

The development, which was approved back in June 2020 as part of the New South Wales Government’s Planning System Acceleration Program, is now officially underway with Lendlease having boots on the ground at the site.

The over-station development consists of a 42-storey tower that will feature 56,000sqm of office space alongside dining and retail-activated public laneways. Outdoor green spaces are another addition to the development.

Lendlease says the North Sydney project will feature workplaces designed to promote flexibility, innovation and collaboration. Outdoor balconies and green or ‘biophilic’ spaces will be featured which are designed to promote health and wellbeing.

The Victoria Cross development is ultimately designed to serve as an integrated transport hub that promotes connectivity and livability by featuring retail and commercial elements.

The construction phase of the project is expected to support around 2,800 on-site jobs, primarily in manufacturing, building design and engineering. The construction period will last three years thus is scheduled to end in 2024.

December 2020 saw the completion of tunnelling and excavation at Victoria Cross with the first tracks of the new Sydney Metro City and Southwest line being completed last month.

North Sydney Lord Mayor, Jilly Gibson, said the new developments show the area is maturing as many companies – both national and overseas – now have North Sydney as their commercial centre of choice.

“The Victoria Cross development will improve connections both to the North Sydney CBD and within the North Sydney CBD, which is an excellent urban design outcome and I look forward to seeing it take shape,” said Mayor Gibson.

Jeheon Son, the Head of Development NSW and Head of Integrated Transport Development, remarked he was impressed with the Lendlease partnership that has seen boots on the site only six months after approval for the development was granted, which was accelerated by the NSW  Government.

He said the project is a reflection of the changing times whereby more convenient workplaces are sought after.

“Around the world, people are increasingly demanding workplaces that are stitched into their local communities – including great links to transport as well as outstanding sustainability and digital credentials. That’s exactly what this project will be,” he says.

“Lendlease shares the vision of our government partners to create both economic activity as well exceptional public spaces for everyone’s enjoyment – Victoria Cross is another example of what these partnerships can deliver.”
