- Stephen Hundy of Worrells has been appointed as liquidator
- American Express is owed $100,000
A Wagga Wagga-based regional building company is the latest to have gone into administration.
Last Friday, the court ordered Tozer Construction Group to liquidate.
Worrells’ Stephen Hundy has been appointed as liquidator, but has not yet disclosed how much the company owes creditors or how many homeowners are in limbo.
Not a surprise
The news is not a surprise to any stakeholders who have engaged with Tozer this year.
According to a report from credit reporting bureau CreditorWatch, American Express is owed $100,000, based on a default judgement order in September.
Timber company Dahlsens Building Centres is reportedly owed around $20,000. Steel Supplies is owed $9,200, and Building Supply Co has taken the company to court over a $27,000 debt.
Even a simple Google search highlights concerns from both homeowners and contractors.
“Subcontractors beware, these guys do not pay their invoices.I have sent so many reminders, called and left messages for no response.Very poor form Tozer Group, not the way to conduct business,” said one Google review.
“We found them to be very unresponsive and they do not get back to you when they say they will. We made the mistake of spending $25000 on roof repairs with them only to require addition work. The roof that was installed still seems to leak. I have tried to discuss the job further with senior management there but they don’t return calls. ‘Warren’ was going to call me back in January but I am still waiting for him. I have been waiting since 26th of Feb for a 2nd quote that I requested to complete the remainder of the repairs that were previously missed,” said one home owner.
“We have undertaken professional services for this company over the last 18 months, and they have not made any payments despite us chasing them multiple times. They do not return phone calls. We have ceased working for them and are commencing legal proceedings, we caution anyone looking at this group to stop providing work for them without up front payment. We understand other professionals are now commencing legal proceedings as well,” said another
