A development application has been lodged for ‘La Mer’, a new 29 full-floor luxury residences apartment project, to be built on Main Beach Parade, on the Gold Coast.

The joint developers are the Polites Property Group and Descon Group Australia. The former is headed by identical twins Alex and Marcus Polites, grandsons of late Adelaide property rich-lister Con Polites.

Descon is headed up by Director Anthony Quinn. Both he and Alex Polites are childhood friends and Gold Coast locals.

La Mer follows the success of Polites Property Group’s joint venture with Ignite Projects on its $85 million Cabana Palm Beach project, which sold out.

The beachfront development with 34 luxury apartments and a private Caribbean-style resort club was launched in December last year and within a few months had sold off-the-plan. The apartments were priced from $1.99 million to $2.775 million; with construction due to commence in June 2021.

Meanwhile, La Mer will house three-bedroom three and half bathroom apartments, each with 301 square metres of space. The development will be topped off by a penthouse with its own roof top terrace.

Designed by architects Archideom, La Mer has drawn its inspiration from the surrounds of the area — bordered by the beach and the Broadwater.

“The 3580 Main Beach Parade proposal is a modern built form outcome that will make a positive contribution to the character of the Main Beach locality,” said Steve Morton of Zone Town Planning.

“The Code Assessable development represents an efficient use of land zoned for high density residential outcomes that ensures that all units have a minimum of 2 car parking spaces.

“The proposal is expected to assist in addressing the significant dwelling supply shortfall currently being experienced within the City.”

All residences will have beach views and a walkway will provide access to the beach itself. The official launch is set for 5 June 2021, with construction due to commence in May 2022.

Apartments will be priced from $2.2 million.

La Mer, a 1946 song from French singer
and composer Charles Trenet
(translated, abridged)…

The sea (La mer)
That we see dancing
Along the clear gulfs
Has reflections of silver

The sea
Changing reflections
Under the rain
The sea
That in the summer sky confuses
His white sheep
With angels so pure
Cradled my heart for life
