Aussies love their home renos, but new research by Compare the Market found that New Zealand is the country with the highest total monthly number of Google searches across six different renovation terms, using a per capita rate.
With 126.53 searches a month per 100,000 people for different renovation terms, New Zealand’s search volume is almost double that of the country in second place, Singapore, with just 66.27 per capita.
Australia takes out the bronze place for interest in home renovation with 55.32 searches.
The terms used were “renovation”, “bathroom renovation”, “kitchen renovation”, “bedroom renovation”, “laundry renovation”, and “home office renovation”.
Compare the Market’s, James McCay says this should not be too surprising given the long-running success of home renovation reality TV shows like The Block.
“From 2019 to 2021, Australians spent more and more on renovations, partly due to the Australian Government providing grants for renovations to help prop-up the construction industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Australia recorded the highest monthly search volume for two specific renovation terms, namely “bedroom renovation” and “laundry renovation”, outdoing their counterparts across the Tasman Sea in these categories.
The search volume for the terms “bathroom renovation” and “kitchen renovation” is the highest in New Zealand.
Ireland is the country most interested in home office renovations.
Rounding out the top five countries most interested in renovations, Sweden recorded 50.98 searches while Denmark followed close behind with 50.51.
