  • The world's tallest building saw sale prices rise 16% year on year
  • The total value of sales reached AED$477 million
  • The most expensive residential unit sold was AED$16 million

As the weekend approaches we wind down with some sky-high figures that the world’s tallest building achieved in 2022.

Celebrating 13 years since the building opened on 4 January 2010, the Burj Khalifa is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It rises over 828 metres or 2,716.5 feet, with the building home to more than 160 stories.

The Burj Khalifa holds numerous records including the world’s tallest or highest:

  • Building (828 metres or 2,716.5 feet)
  • Free-standing structure
  • Number of stories (over 200, with 160 “habitable” storeys)
  • Occupied floor (535 metres, Level 160)
  • Outdoor observation deck (Level 124)
  • Service elevator (504 metres)
  • Swimming pool (Level 76, over 270 metres or 885 feet)
  • Nightclub, and
  • Restaurant.

Undoubtedly, we will have missed something!

The Burj Khalifa comfortably rises above previous record holders including Malaysia’s Petronas Towers and Warisan Merdeka Tower, New York’s World Trade Centre and One World Trade Centre, Chicago’s Willis Tower, Toronto’s CN Tower, Taipei’s Taipei 101, Shanghai’s Shanghai Tower, and South Korea’s Lotte World Tower.

Second most viewed tourist attraction on TikTok

In 2022, of all the tourist attractions around the world, the Burj Khalifa was viewed 1.5 billion times on TikTok, according to Knight Frank, the second highest views for a global tourist attraction for 2022.

First place tourist attraction went to Disney World Orlando with almost 9 billion views, according to TimeOut.

Dubai itself scored first place for tourist destination, with the city viewed over 92 billion times on Tiktok.

As for Google searches, the 2022 Google Maps “Top Cultural Landmarks” did not include the Burj Khalifa in the top ten, instead including:

  3. The Great Pyramid of Giza, Al Giza Desert, Egypt
  4. Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

  7. Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Taipei City, Taiwan

  10. Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul, South Korea

How much does an apartment in the Burj Khalifa cost?

According to Knight Frank, the world’s tallest tower’s highest price achieved was AED$4,044 per square foot which is roughly AUD$1,627 per square foot.

Over 2022 the Burj Khalifa achieved AED$477 million in sales (AUD$192 million), with prices increasing 16% from 2021 to 2022. The number of residential units sold in the world’s tallest building was 94.

Downtown saw AED$15.6 billion in sales, with the Burj Khalifa accounting for 2% of units sold in Downton. The building accounts for 4% of all sales by number in Downton since 2009, and accounts for 7% of all sales by value in Downtown since 2009.

Knight Frank data also showed that the Burj Khalifa saw the most expensive residential unit sold at AED$16 million, which is about AUD$6.44 million.

Since 2009, the total value of residential sales has added up to an eye-watering AED$7.9 billion or just under AUD$3.2 billion, with the Burj Khalifa accounting for 0.25% of total residential sales by value in Dubai.
