- SA's government has dedicated $750K towards conservation works
- Funding is available as a part of a new grants program

The South Australian government has committed $750,000 towards conservation works in the state’s national parks and reserves.
The funding will be delivered through a grant program in partnership with the Friends of Parks (FoP) South Australia Board, an umbrella organisation for individual community volunteer groups.
FoP groups will be able to access funding through two streams.
An ‘FoP Small Grands Program’ will provide grants up to $5000. This can go towards purchasing operating equipment, skills development or personal protective equipment. Alternatively, funds can be used for on-park or off-park projects and activities.
The ‘Partnership Grants Program’ stream, requires candidate FoP groups to partner with another group or organisation and deliver larger scale ground conservation works. Potential partnerships could be with environmental organisations or councils. This second stream offers grants of up to $25,000.
Friends of Parks Board President, Duncan MacKenzie, said the new initiative is something FoP is very grateful for.

“It will help to ensure Friends of Parks groups can continue to roll out the many different activities we undertake in national parks for the protection and enhancement of South Australia’s natural and cultural heritage,” he said.
South Australia’s Minister for Environment and Water, David Speirs, hopes funding will boost conservation and improve the visitor experience.
“South Australians love their national parks and the COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted just how important they are for recreation and mental health as well as protecting our environment,” Mr Speirs said.
Applications for the Small Grants Program are currently available with the Partnerships Grant applications opening in the coming weeks.
