  • Three houses were recognised in the 'New House' category
  • Award winners go though to the national level of the program

The winners for the annual Australian Institute of Architects Awards (AIA) program have been announced. Three new architecturally designed houses were spotlighted at the virtually held awards night.

Marmion Street House

This home designed by Philip Stejskal Architecture is described as being “…informed by nostalgic memory”. The house received the prestigious Marshall Clifton Award for Residential Architecture.

Located a short walk from Perth’s Cottesloe beach the design takes hints from its seaside surroundings.

The design was commended for use of materials well suited to the coastal surroundings – concrete, greying timber, brick, stainless steel and ply.

Macdonald Road House

The residents of the Macdonald Road House asked for an ‘iconic’ house and Philip Stejskal Architecture delivered.

The house is located on a prominent corner of a busy intersection and with its eye-catching wooden feature roof peeking over the fence. It has become a landmark for the area.

The design boasts a wrap-around veranda in beautiful dark timber, taking inspiration from the classical Australian-style house.

The “visually stimulating” house received an award in the category for ‘New Houses’.

Carr Street House

Designed by Klopper & Davis Architects this city house received a commendation in the new house category.

Despite the small block, this house is generous with its space allowing for a high-quality home with all the essentials of modern living. The block even boasts a pool.

The exterior utilises textures and shapes in the brickwork to create a unique and interesting feature wall.  The design was recognised as being well-tailored to the requirements of the young family who will be the residents of the West Perth home.
