The best in the Midwest building industry were commended for another year of fantastic accomplishments at the Master Builders Bankwest Building Excellence Awards held last Saturday.

Award winners and finalists were recognised for exhibiting outstanding commitment to the craft, at the event held at The Gerald Apartment Hotel in Geraldton.

Sam Karamfiles, owner of Karamfiles Builders and Awards Judge, expressed how impressed he was with the quality of award entries which he believes in increasing year on year.

“Midwest builders are taking great pride in producing a quality product, for most it is their selling point over their competition.”

Sam Karamfiles, Awards Judge

Mr Karamfiles said that the judges were taken aback by the professionalism of the projects delivered, and added that some of the high-end homes presented by builders in the region could compete with any in the state.

“Some were in quite remote areas where this possibly magnified the difficulty to build, but the results showcased the ability to bring the best out from all of their subcontractors and suppliers and produce the workmanship everyone is proud of,” he said.

Celebrating after a hard year

Paul Kerr, Master Builders Regional Manager for the Midwest, said the evening was a chance for reflection for those in the building industry after a busy taxing year, with over $38 million in project value displayed at the event.

Mr Kerr added that the support of contractors and sub-contractors are vital to the tremendous achievements of builders.

“The resilience that our Midwest builders have displayed has been truly amazing. When you add to the mix the recent devastation to communities in the Midwest caused by Cyclone Seroja, you know the building and construction industry is in good hands.”

Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets (GBSC) took out the night’s most prestigious award, the Best Regional Project, for the newly constructed Technical Maintenance Support (TMS) offices and workshop.

Mr Karamfiles commended GBSC on the use of high quality fixtures and fittings throughout the modern office project.

He added that the office and workshop space is high in functionality and will accommodate all staff needs, allowing the business to operate effectively.
