  • Blackburne Property Group will develop the residential site under new designs that have been summitted for approval
  • Comes as Karrinyup Shopping Centre underwent a $800M transformation last year
  • New designs to feature fewer apartments

The remaining planned residential site at Karrinyup Shopping Centre will be developed by Blackburne Property Group, it has been announced.

Managed by AMP Capital on behalf of owner UniSuper, the Karrinyup West site is located on the western side of the centre, and follows Blackburne’s success at its East Village residences, which have almost sold-out ahead of scheduled completion in early 2023.

Designs to be changed

Blackburne has said it does not intend to proceed with the existing approved residences in place for the site.

Instead, a new application for development approval has been submitted which features one less building, slightly reduced height and overall fewer apartments.

The new designs represent an alternative vision and have been prepared with a new team of consultants and architects.

The announcement comes as the redeveloped $800 million Karrinyup Shopping Centre was completed last year. This redevelopment saw the centre double in size from 59,874 sqm to 109,000 sqm.

Managing Director Paul Blackburne said given the success of East Village, people are now seeking quality residential developments that are near vibrant retail centres.

“Residences being developed in conjunction with retail offerings are more and more common internationally, and the exceptionally strong interest we’ve had in East Village demonstrates that there is demand in Australia too,” ssaid Mr Blackburne.

“We’re proud to have been selected as the development manager to deliver an iconic development in the heart of Karrinyup.”

Scott Nugent, AMP Capital’s WA Divisional Investment & Development Manager WA added that he was pleased to collaborating with Blackburne on another project.

“Our vision has been to create a genuine mixed-use community at Karrinyup, which offers a place to live, relax, socialise, shop, dine and enjoy,” he said.

“This is a unique experience which cannot be found anywhere else in Perth.

“The care and attention to detail Blackburne puts into realising its award winning developments is second to none, and we look forward to working as a team to create a lively and vibrant, world-class residential options at Karrinyup West.”

Soon, the community will be able to provide their feedback during the City of Stirling’s community consultation period.
