Queensland’s best new architectural houses were revealed last week at the Australian Institute of Architects’ Queensland Architecture Awards night.
Winners of the prestigious awards were announced via a virtual presentation.
The jury – made up of various renowned architects and industry experts – have chosen the best in architecture across the state. More than 40 projects across 13 categories received awards with
Six houses were highlighted in the ‘New Houses’ category for Residential Architecture.
Riverbank House
Designed by Wilson Architects, the Riverbank House received The Robin Dods Award – Queensland’s top accolade for new residential architecture.
Perched on the edge of the Brisbane River this appropriately named house utilises a combination of raw materials.
The house floats beautifully over the riverbank.
Mt Coot-tha House
Located on the challenging terrane of a steep bushland block, Mt Coot-tha House cleverly harmonises with its surroundings.
Designed by architect Neilsen Jenkins, the house received an Award for Residential Architecture – New Houses.
The building was highlighted for its control of daylight and integration of landscape in the design.
Long Road House
This house employs a verandah-like design to flaunt its stunning surroundings with uninterrupted views of the subtropical rainforest.
The farmhouse-esque house forms a large courtyard which lends itself to outdoor cooking and gatherings.
Designed by James Russell Architect, the house was the other one of only two to receive an Award for Residential Architecture – New Houses.
Baker Boys Beach House
Taking inspiration from local campsites this house accommodates for multiple families to enjoy it as a holiday space – sporting generous communal areas.
This house is nestled comfortably into the bushland hillside with unencumbered views of the Pacific Ocean.
Baker Boys House – designed by REFRESH*DESIGN – received a commendation in the Residential Architecture category for New Houses.
Twin Houses
The Twin House was recognised by a commendation in the Residential Architecture category for New Houses.
This pair of elevated houses on a sub-divided site was recognised for its use of landscaping to mediate light, dust, and privacy.
Las Palmas
True to its name, this house takes inspiration from Palm Springs’ mid-century modernism.
The building is positioned to overlook the Noosa River. It utilises the juxtaposition of bare concrete walls with its wooden roof.
The building is designed by Tim Ditchfield Architects and received a commendation in the Residential Architecture category for New Houses.
