- Target achieved four years ahead of target
- Other companies have also joined the plight for sustainability
- Australia was responsible for 60% of Goodman's global emissions
Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) today announced it has achieved carbon neutrality. The milestone was officially recognised by the Australian Government’s Climate Active program, and done so four years ahead of schedule.
The carbon neutral result comes from reducing emissions from corporate activities and landlord controlled areas, and includes 100% Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
Greg Goodman, CEO, Goodman Group said it was a global effort, the company noted operations in Europe and New Zealand already achieved net zero status for their operations.
Prior to Australian operations transitioning to 100% green power, the country was responsible for 60% of company emissions, globally.
The news comes as other companies also made progress in the sustainability sphere, Brookfield recently launched its campaign against plastics as a partner of Plastic Free July, an initiative designed to reduce single-use plastic waste.
Brookfield looked inward first, removing single-use plastics from a base-building perspective before also inspiring tenants to do the same.
Goodman Group is also looking inward, the company said it “believes that redeveloping existing brownfield sites will reduce the environmental impact.”
In the US for example, major projects like Goodman Logistics Centre Fullerton is using 95% of materials recycled on-site as part of the new construction and is expecting the building’s embodied carbon to be net-zero.
