  • Has been co-owned by Olivia Newton-John since 2005
  • Comes as the surrounding Byron Bay area is experiencing a property boom

After being hopelessly devoted to her Byron Bay resort for 16 years, no more summer nights will occur there for Olivia Newton-John. She has put her co-owned Gaia Retreat & Spa – which is nestled in the Bundjalung Country hinterland – onto the market.

Gus Moors and Karen Wales of Colliers International have been tasked with selling the unique retreat.

The 22-room resort, located at 933 Fernleigh Road in Brooklet, consists of an expansive day spa and other facilities on eight hectares of land. The sale includes two adjoining residential titles across four of the hectares with district views.

For those who want to get physical, the resort has a range of individually tailored programs such as detox, weight loss, fitness, yoga and general wellbeing.

Additionally, the property has an award-winning restaurant with locally sourced seasonal produce.

“Having won so many humbling and outstanding awards, we have decided it is time to ‘pass the baton’ to new custodians so they can continue our positive message that Gaia is ‘your timeout to reconnect, breath and surrender’.

“It’s bittersweet, but as a team, we always agreed that we would ‘go out on top’.”

Olivia Newton-John, co-owner of Gaia Retreat & Spa, in a statement

According to the listing from Colliers International, Gaia has high repeat visitation that has helped boost its profits over an extended period.

The resort recently received the Global Chairman’s Award for the Best Global Spa & Wellness Retreat in 2020 along with the Global Hotel of the Year in 2018 at the World Luxury Hotel Awards. This was the first time an Australian hotel had received the honour.

As common for sales of similar properties, the price guide has not been released publicly by Colliers.
