A breacher of hotel quarantine who tested positive for COVID-19 has sent Hobart, Tasmania, into a snap three-day lockdown.
Premier Peter Gutwein announced the lockdown will commence at 6pm tonight (Friday October 15), ending 6pm Monday October 18.
Public Health confirmed the man had visited a Woolworths in Bridgewater between 3.15pm and 4pm.
However, Premier Gutwein announced the man has been inconsistent and non-disclosed information about his whereabouts during his breach.
“Information has been difficult to gage.”
Hundreds of people have lined up for testing at a new drive-through clinic in Gagebrook today, with a walk-in vaccination clinic available at the Brighton Civic Centre nearby.

Restrictions
Stay-at-home orders are in place for the above areas, unless:
- Shopping for urgent household supplies within 5 km of home — only one person from a household at any one time.
- Attending medical or health care appointments, including COVID-19 testing or vaccinations.
- A permitted worker — a person working for a provider or business that is permitted to operate, and who cannot work from home.
- Going to school — if the child of a permitted worker, or if unable to learn at home, or going to child care.
- Exercising once per day outdoors within 5 km of home for up to two hours — alone or with your household or with one other person for safety reasons;
- Caring for a vulnerable person, or for other compassionate reasons.
- And in other permitted circumstances, such as in an emergency or to escape harm relating to family violence.
With indoor and outdoor gatherings now not permitted during the lockdown, there will be no home inspections.

Quarantine escapee
The 31-year-old man flew into Hobart from Melbourne on Monday (October 11) without the appropriate border pass.
After he was put into hotel quarantine in the CBD, security guards discovered he was missing from his room on Tuesday.
Police found him later that day at a home in Bridgewater and was transferred to the CBD’s Fountainside medi-hotel.
The state government believes the man spent 18 hours in the community where he had several touch points.
After being tested for COVID-19, his results came back positive.
Mr Gutwein said the man was not cooperating, refusing to wear a face mask since testing positive.
On Wednesday, police said the man would likely be fined about $3,000 for breaching the state’s border requirements and leaving hotel quarantine.
