The 2021 annual WA Property Awards were held last Friday at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, presented by the Property Council of Australia and sponsored by Energy-Tec.
The prestigious awards recognise the success of the state’s property sector, and were expanded this year to include new categories celebrating the expertise and skill of industry leaders.
According to Sandra Brewer, Property Council WA Executive Director, 75 finalists were in contention to be crowned winners.
“The calibre of the nomination is a testament to the WA property industry and its commitment to the design, construction and management of exceptional places.”
Sandra Brewer, Property Council WA Executive Director
Ms Brewer acknowledged that WA’s property industry is critical in shaping the future of the state, contributing $24.4 billion to Gross State Product and employing over 150,000 people.
“The awards recognise and applaud the people who are delivering great places for West Australians and make our state a world leading business and lifestyle location,” said Ms Brewer.
Award Winners
Presenting this year’s awards were WA Minister for Transport and Planning, Rita Saffioti, Chief Executive Officer of Landgate, Graeme Gammie, and Western Australian Planning Commission Chairman, David Caddy and event sponsors.
Taking home the award for Best Commercial Property, sponsored by Mizco Engineering, was Hames Sharley for the NEXTDC Perth Data Centre. The data centre spans over 10,000 square meters and is the city’s largest of its kind.
“This award recognises the importance of NEXTDC P2 as an important digital interconnectivity hub, commending both its functionality and design,” said Hames Sharley Project Lead, Dean Symington.
“I am incredibly proud of everyone who worked tirelessly in helping bring this project to life, balancing the security requirements of the data centre with the City’s desire for an open and transparent public interface.”
The Hawaiian Group was recognised as Best Commericial Fit out or Single Floor Refurbishment for its Hawaiian Office Show Suites, an innovative redesign of traditional office spaces.
For Best Large Retail Development, Scentre Group was awarded for their $350 million development of the state’s largest shopping centre, Westfield Carousel.
Mirvac and the Roe Highway Logistics park took home two awards each, winning Best Master Planned Community and Innovation, and Best Industrial and Sustainable Development respectively.
Individuals recognised for first time
This year saw the introduction of two awards recognising individual talent in the property industry.
Scott Bellerby, Managing Director of B Strata, was granted the WA Property Manager, Facilities Manager, Leasing Agent or Strata Manager of the Year Award.
The award recognised Mr Bellerby’s advocation for strata reform in WA and his use of innovative technology systems to deliver customers outstanding results.
Imran Mohiuddin, State Chief Executive of Colliers, was crowned the prestigious WA Property Leader of the Year for his outstanding leadership and commitment to delivering the best outcomes for people during Covid.
The Pakistan-born Real Estate Executive graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1981 before beginning a career in commercial real estate in 1987.
Mr Mohiuddin joined Colliers in 2001 before being promoted to State Executive two years later and has since lead the WA agency to become among the three largest Collier franchises globally.
Mr Mohiuddin was also instrumental in developing the asset management software platform Core Vision, and cultivating Asian investment in Perth’s market.
“Imran has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to innovation, diversity and to delivering the best outcomes for people for more than three decades.”
Sandra Brewer, Property Council WA Executive Director
“Imran leads by example, with an inspiring style and emphasis on relationships that have driven impressive business results, attracted a large pool of capital to Perth and elevated the industry’s adoption of technology.
“Imran embodies the spirit of the WA Property Leader of the Year Award, and it is our honour to present him with this inaugural acknowledgement,” concluded Ms Brewer.
