  • New Western Sydney city named after Harbour Bridge engineer Bradfield
  • The city is more than an hour away from Sydney's harbour
  • Property prices in the area are stagnant, last records show asking price of $1.52M

Back in August 2020, it was announced the city that would accompany Western Sydney Airport would be named following a public vote.

Considered the “third city” after Sydney and Parramatta, the city is being marketed as an “aerotropolis” by the New South Wales state government, a hub for innovation, technology and science.

What has hitherto been referred to as the Western Parkland City, Parramatta referred to in planning documents as Central River City and Sydney the Eastern Harbour City, the area is to walk in the footsteps of world leading precincts like Incheon Airport, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian saying back in 2017, South Korea’s gateway was “a powerful example of how to leverage the economic impact of an airport by creating an ‘aerotropolis’, or city around an airport.”

A panel decides

The name Bradfield was selected following a chance for the community to choose the name. Western Parkland City Authority, the authority responsible for the new city, stated in a release on 16 March that:

“Bradfield was selected after the community was asked to have a say, with a panel settling on the final decision to honour John Bradfield’s enduring city-shaping impact on Sydney, including his major contribution the Sydney Harbour Bridge. “

Situated north of Bringelly, it is approximately an hour west of Sydney along the M5 and “is more than 100 hectares”.

Housing in the area is sure to see prices rise when the area sees the Western Sydney Airport ribbon floating in the breeze, according to SQM Research the weekly asking property price for a 3 bedroom house is a touch under $1 million at $999,167, the asking property prices for all houses in the postcode sitting at over $1.52 million.
