- Growth Areas Delivery Team was announced by the Deputy Premier today

Today the Queensland Deputy Premier, Dr Steven Miles, has announced the State Government will establish a new specialist team to tackle challenges facing the population growth and increasing demand for housing in the state.
Dr Miles – who is also the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning – said as the population is increasing, he wants to ensure the public that the State Government, along with local councils, can keep up with the demand for not just housing but infrastructure.
“Queenslanders want to know that when they’re ready to buy their first home, they will be able to do so without being priced out of the market or when they’re ready to retire and downsize, they can do so without the need to move far away,” said Dr Miles.
The State Planner will work with Economic Development Queensland to establish a Growth Areas Delivery Team which he says will pursue partnerships between key stakeholders in the industry such as developers, local government, utility providers and the state.
The first task of the new team will be sourcing a pilot site for a new growth area, which will be identified by the end of March.
“The pilot site identified will be an example of how local and state governments and the private sector can work together to plan for better communities,” he said.
“The team will also work to bring land in the underutilised urban footprint to market sooner and ensure that quarterly local government infrastructure reporting identifies infrastructure spending and delivery for larger councils.”
