- Hiddlestone Electrics celebrated 100 years in business
- Opens Hiddlestone Hub, co-working space in Subiaco
- Aimed at small business, startups and scale-ups
Reaching 100 years in business is quite a milestone. Turn on CNN and in between the ads, the channel profiles companies that have been in business for a century, such as Denims Jeans, Coca Cola and Jack Daniels.
Given that Western Australia was established as a State in 1829, you need to look far and wide to find a WA company that has managed the three figures.
Hiddlestone Electrics was founded in 1920 by the existing owners’ grandfather Howard and his two brothers, hence the original name, H. Hiddlestone, then Hiddlestone Bros. The three brothers had a global pandemic to contend with back then too, but jumped on the new trend of electrification, which was coming to homes for the first time in the surrounding area.
Granddaughters of the original founder run the business to this day: “Maybe we should be called ‘Hiddlestone Sisters'”, quipped one of them at the launch last week.
Hiddlestone Hub
After everyone’s work from home experiences over the past twelve months, there has been continued discussion about what the future of work will look like. Will we need offices? Will they be smaller? Will we blend work from home, varying start/end times with more traditional office spaces?
Hiddlestone has responded to this by opening a new ‘hub’ space in the trendy western Perth suburb of Subiaco. Hit recently by the removal of the Subiaco Oval and NFL football, iconic businesses like the Victoria Pub have closed.
Subiaco is in revival mode, with the upcoming redevelopment of the Subiaco markets by Blackburne, with their One Subiaco project.
With co-working spaces becoming successful in Perth’s CBD – Spacecubed runs five around the metro area – more traditional businesses may look to the hub concept to help fill their commercial spaces.
