The New South Wales State Government has announced a new development hub that will host a variety of customers including major global retailers, e-commerce firms, health and pharmaceutical industries, warehousing operators, light manufacturing and data centers.

Frasers Property Partners and Altis Bulky Retail are jointly developing the Kemps Creek Warehouse, Logistics and Industrial Facilities Hub in Western Sydney.

The location is close to Sydney’s second airport, Western Sydney Nancy-Bird Walton International Airport, which started construction in 2018 and is expected to be operating by late 2026.

The government expects the $242 million project to create 700 jobs during the construction phase with a further 950 jobs to be created once the hub begins operations.   Once fully completed, the hub could support up to 2000 operational jobs, according to Tanya Davies, the local state member of parliament.

Rob Stakes, the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, is hoping the development will boost the local Western Sydney economy.

“The approval means we can get shovels in the ground faster. This government is committed to fast-tracking planning assessments to help stimulate the economy during the pandemic” said Mr Stakes.

The Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayre, echoed this view.

“Creating jobs and boosting business is a priority for the NSW Government and this Hub means work for hundreds of people, during both construction and when the warehouse becomes operational,” said Mr Ayres.

“This is just another example proving that COVID-19 won’t stop NSW from growing stronger, and the Hub also supports our plan to foster new sources of growth, jobs and investment in Western Sydney.”

The State Government is confident the Hub will be a prime component of the future Aerotropolis – the idea of building a local economy and industrial area that is centered on an airport, like Changi Airport in Singapore with the recent inclusion of the Jewel retail complex located at the airport.

Ms Davies, whose electorate Mulago is where the hub will be located, is confident of the economic impact the hub will have.

“Western Sydney is establishing itself as a strong industrial and employment growth area. The construction of a new warehouse and logistics hub is going to substantially add to this growing reputation and attract more investment that will benefit our western Sydney community,” Ms Davies said.
