Best Project of 2022

Multiplex Constructions won the 2022 Master Builders Best Project of the Year for its work in the expansion of Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

The project nearly doubles the circa 59,600 square metre centre to some 114,000 square metres in gross lettable area, with the expansion comprising refurbishment of the existing centre, upgrades to existing major tenancies, substantial car parking provision and road infrastructure.

Multiplex was commended for successfully working in a live environment, with the objective to minimise the disruption to shoppers as far as possible while ensuring safety remained their number one priority.

Chief Judge Robert Shaw said the project was an outstanding example of high standard
workmanship.

“The entries in this year’s Awards display first class workmanship and the highest construction standards of West Australian builders,” Mr Shaw said.

“Selecting a winner this year was difficult as majority of the projects the judges saw were diverse, and top-tier.”

Master Builders Executive Director John Gelavis likewise praised this years entrants:

“During such unprecedented times, we were pleased to see our members continuing to strive excellence,” Mr Gelavis said.

“It has been an extremely challenging year, and despite setbacks, we have seen some incredible work produced.”

Multiplex also won the top award last year for its work at the NextDC Data Centre in Perth.

Best Regional Project

The Treendale Farm Hotel was the project, with BGC Construction taking the title of Best Regional Project for 2022.

The Treendale Farm Hotel comprises a drive-through bottle shop, commercial kitchen, large family dining area, sports bar, amenities, extensive alfresco area, car parking and children’s playground.

The hotel was delivered in three stages, with the bottle shop being available for fitout and stocking four weeks prior to practical completion and the kitchen two weeks ahead of practical completion for training and stocking.

“The judges were taken aback by the professional projects that were delivered in the regions. Some were in quite remote areas where this possibly magnified the difficulty to build, but the results showcased the ability to bring the best out from all commercial builders,” said Judge Charlie Baggetta.

The project also won Best Regional Project in the 2021 Master Builders South West Building Excellence Awards 2021.

Top Subcontractor 2022

The title of best subcontractor went to Cubic Interiors for its state-of-the-art finishes at the Karrinyup Shopping Centre redevelopment.

The finishes were inspired by a coastal setting, with Cubic assisting the design team to create bespoke feature timbre and plasterboard ceilings, reminiscent of the surrounding rolling dunes.
