  • Extended lockdowns and restrictions have not prevented some strong commercial deals
  • Auctions have gone online, and attracted good interest and results
  • Rental deals are being done all over Melbourne, according to Fitzroys

The resilience of Victorians and Melbourne’s neighbourhood strips has been on full display in the face of the fourth COVID lockdown in recent weeks.

Even the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has been passed fit for work, and was seen taking his Covid jab last week.

Meanwhile, Fitzroys real estate agents have sold some prime retail properties in Church Street, Brighton and Burke Road, Camberwell shopping strips for a combined $12 million-plus over two auctions, just as restrictions again came into effect.

The auction of 634 Burke Road, Camberwell, home to national retailer Mecca Cosmetica, had been scheduled for the first Friday of the lockdown.

Fitzroys Director and auctioneer David Bourke conducted the auction online from home with bidders joining via video link from Hong Kong, Queensland, and regional Australia, as well as Melbourne.

“The property sold for $6 million – an incredible $1.4 million above the reserve – and the seamless transaction for all parties saw the electronic exchange of contracts and transfer of funds immediately afterwards,” Mr Bourke said.

The day before lockdown, the same company sold 13 Church Street, Brighton for $6.070 million at an incredibly tight 2.5% yield.

Over in Moonee Ponds, renowned celebrity cosmetic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lanzer will open his next clinic in Puckle Street, on a four-year $78,000+GST per annum lease.

Dr. Lanzer was recently host of Channel 7’s The Cosmetic Surgery Show, a 10-part reality series that followed everyday Australians and celebrities and their decisions to explore cosmetic surgery. He has also appeared on Channel 7’s Cosmetic Coffee and he also appeared on SBS’s Insight, Studio 10, Today Extra, The Midday Show, Today Tonight and A Current Affair.

Other deals down Puckle Street include a former Flight Centre outlet becoming State of Grace Jewellery, Body Catalyst, Harris HMC Construction (builders of the Penny Lane development a few doors down), an astrology centre and the beauty salon Hydra Skin Bar.

Rental deals are being done all over Melbourne, according to Fitzroys.
