As of 12:01am Friday, South Australia’s new ePlanning system will go live.
The new system is designed to be a one-stop-shop whereby all planning and design application will be assessed against a single set of rules which the South Australian Governments says will make the process clearer and more consistent for those building or renovating.
“This will be an Australian first – a new planning system that unites all elements of planning into one easily accessible online platform to guide development across our state,
I acknowledge and thank all those who contributed to this important reform. It has been a long process, but I am confident we are delivering a Code that is efficient, simple and effective.

The State Planning Commission focused on several areas when formulating the new planning system which includes residential infill, heritage and character along with rural value.
Additionally, the Commission laid a framework for complex issues such as climate change and economic restricting.
Michael Lennon, who is the retiring Chair of the Commission, says the new system is a ‘genuine innovation’ due to the fact it is a single code on a digital platform.
Mr Lennon said this will take planning in South Australia to the ‘Information Age’.
“In planning, everyone wants certainty and flexibility. Balance is therefore necessary. The Code is designed to deliver consistent, predictable, reliable rules at the local, regional and state level,”

Elinor Walker, President of the South Australian division of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA), extended her congratulations to the South Australia Government on the new reforms, which she says has been an eight-year effort.
“South Australia will have the first state-wide ePlanning system and Accredited Professional Scheme in Australia, which we are confident will increase transparency of decision making and enable ongoing professional development.”
“We commend the efforts of all Planning and Land Use Services staff, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to deliver a brand new system for our State.”

As previously reported here on The Property Tribune, HomeBuilder applications will still be assessed on the existing system, giving the program’s deadline is 31 March – just under two weeks away.
