A new lifestyle show aiming to make the housing industry more sustainable is set to arrive on TV screens across Australia early next month.

The 9Life show ‘Renovate or Rebuild’ is infusing the entertainment of reality television with education and practical tips for sustainable housing. The show strives to bring the green housing message to a broader audience.

Creator and Executive Producer, James McGregor, described the show as a blend of “Melbourne comedy festival and your favourite architectural design show”, but featuring contestants from ‘The Block‘.

“We want people to get excited about things like insulation and high home energy ratings the same way they would get excited about a new kitchen benchtop.”

In each episode, two teams will compete to convince a family that they have the best solution to improving comfort, space and energy efficiency.

The show will take viewers on the journey as both team renovate and team rebuild come up with designs for the house meeting the client’s budget and needs.

The two solutions will then be judged by a panel with experts on style, sustainability, and cost.

The client family will however have the final say, to either renovate or to rebuild.

“The show is designed to teach you about important features of an energy efficient home, give you some amazing home design ideas and leave you with a big smile on your face at the end of every episode,” Mr McGregor explains.

Concepts like passive solar design, insulation, energy efficiency and solar energy systems will be conveyed on the show.

“Our goal with this TV show is to demystify the process of building or renovating an energy efficient home by communicating it in an engaging and entertaining format,” Mr McGregor said.

The show will air on 9Life commencing this Monday, 4 October.
