Today, John Carey, Western Australia’s Minister for Housing, announced 44 grants had been made to regional community housing providers.

“It’s fantastic to see a large number of community housing organisations have been successful in securing these grants, and will be a part of this important work.”

Going towards social housing maintenance, the individual grants made are up to $20,000 each, and are part of the Western Australian government’s Social Housing Economic Recovery Package.

The total value of the grants approved is $771,000, with 51 applicants overall, 44 were approved.

“We anticipate around 140 vulnerable families and individuals will benefit from these grants, and see significant improvements to the quality of their homes.”

Funds will be used on a wide range of potential works such as replacing gutters, servicing ovens and hot water systems, fixing fences, replacing damaged kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and replacing damaged flooring.

Minister Carey also said, “The work being generated through the [Social Housing Economic Recovery Package] SHERP program is also providing employment opportunities in regional towns, where the money will support local maintenance businesses and the broader economy.”
