Property developer Greaton has today announced Multiplex as the new builder on its Ribbon project in Darling Harbour.

Multiplex’s appointment comes as the previous builder, Probuild, went into administration earlier this year.

The Ribbon includes a 585-room luxury hotel, W Sydney, an IMAX theatre and retail, which is largely complete.

The remaining works mostly consist of the internal fit-out along with some public domain contributions works on the Darling Harbour precinct.

Greaton’s Project Director, Michael Calvi, said the appointment of the Multiplex is a great outcome for the developer and the building itself.

“The Ribbon is one of the most complex new major developments currently underway in Sydney and occupies public land right on the harbour foreshore. Appointing a new builder has involved extensive consultation with our various stakeholders,” said Mr Calvi.

“Multiplex was the clear frontrunner in being able to put the finishing touches on such an important landmark for Darling Harbour and for Sydney.

“We are also pleased to continue working with our strong top-tier subcontractor partners, including Buildcorp for the interior fit-out works, who remain committed to completing The Ribbon throughout the transition period.”

Multiplex work has begun work on site.

Multiplex Regional Managing Director, David Ghannoum, said the team is looking forward to continuing to deliver for Sydneysiders.

“Multiplex built the original IMAX theatre some 25 years ago, and so it’s with great pride that we are supporting Greaton to bring this reimagined project to fruition.”

Greaton has extensive experience in delivering large-scale-luxury projects, completing over $2 billion worth of residential, hotel and commercial developments.

The news comes as Multiplex won the Master Builders WA Best Project of the Year 2022 award over the weekend.
