  • Goodman Group took top spot for profit
  • Shopping centres appear in top ten for both profit, and profit increase
  • Top fives include a diverse set of companies

As the half-year reports continue to roll in, we’ve compiled the company profits, as derived from Appendix 4D; there are some exceptions including Scentre Group, from which the full year was released to market with results taken from Appendix 4E.

The below lists are not produced for the purposes of providing an accurate comparison of companies. It should be treated as an interesting thought exercise to be considered with and alongside other information including industry trends, directors’ reports, and more.

Companies with a considerable number of assets will have seen larger profits. This is because the below figures will include (in most cases) property revaluations. This will therefore heavily skew numbers in favour of companies with assets, as compared to real estate agents, technology, developers, and other companies.

While technology companies like Proptech Group may be performing excellently, that will not necessarily be reflected in the below lists given the data set chosen.

Other factors that will influence the below lists include the rounding of figures, how companies operate, how companies calculate profit, recent IPOs, or recent company acquisitions or mergers.

Readers are encouraged to sight the relevant directors’ reports for additional information regarding company performance, and carefully consider percentage changes: after all, the magnitude of change from a few hundred thousand to several million will be very different to tens of millions on top of hundreds of millions.

Top ten by HY22 profit

The top ten is an incredibly diverse group of companies, with encouraging signs for the retail sector. While large format retail emerged as the strongest performing sub-sector of retail, several shopping centre companies including Scentre (Westfield), Vicinity, SCA Property and Charter Hall Retail REIT appeared in the top ten.
