  • The freehold is on the market, with a 100% long term lease currently in place.
  • Sold by Expressions of Interest closing 3 March 2021.
  • Famed for LGBT history and celebrity clientele.

Another iconic Sydney property is on the market, earlier in January the Botany View Hotel was listed for sale.

The landmark property has a rich history, an important part of Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ community.

Famed for seeing celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others go through its doors and make its praises, the gym was also a haven for the queer community during the 70’s and 80’s when homosexuality was still illegal in many Australian states.

The gym was known amongst many as “the gay gym”.

The iconic property is placed on 107-113 Crown Street in Darlinghurst, only a stone’s throw from Oxford Street and a few hundred metres east of Hyde Park.

Across a gross floor area of 1,827 square metres, it’s a rare freehold, with few other properties in the area offering the same amount of space.

The gym also recently underwent a $1.5M makeover, moving it away from what owner Billy Kokkinis told Broadsheet was a “cookie-cutter type establishment”.

To be sold by expressions of interest, the City Gym is being sold by a team including Miron Solomons and Matt Pontey from Colliers, and Daniel Gunning of Gunning RE.
