A South Perth apartment project by Giorgi has won a national design award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA WA).

Echelon Residences won the National UDIA Award for Excellence in the Medium Density category, facing competition from other world-class developments in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The awards program, held annually, seeks to recognise the very best development projects from across the country with nominees from each state’s awards program.

UDIA WA CEO Tanya Steinbeck described the Echelon as the “epitome of style and elegance” and cited the project as a landmark building for South Perth.

“The Echelon team should be very proud of this project, their hard work and dedication to delivering a quality product that features a range of new and innovative building and construction methods has most certainly paid off.”

“Success has not only been proven by the local market acceptance but now in terms of national recognition.”

Tanya Steinbeck, UDIA WA CEO

The building consists of 12 luxury residences along with office space and a ground floor restraint, with the design showcasing innovative construction methods. Each level consists of two mirrored apartments with two penthouses with 4.4 metre high ceilings.

The form of the building itself is mostly a glass box that sits on a metallic plinth. A geometric concrete ‘exoskeleton’ then holds the form together while creating its strong artistic form.

“Quality medium and high-density development is critical to ensuring that Perth residents have a range of housing options to suit different needs into the future,” Ms Steinbeck said.

“A development such as Echelon has proven to be very popular with those looking for a cosmopolitan lifestyle with all the amenities and services that come with it.”
