The Western Sydney Airport is gradually taking shape as more announcements have been made.
In March, the city accompanying the airport was officially named, Bradfield, following community consultation and a panel decision.
“Bradfield was selected after the community was asked to have a say, with a panel settling on the final decision to honour John Bradfield’s enduring city-shaping impact on Sydney, including his major contribution the Sydney Harbour Bridge. “

In recent days, following a competitive procurement process, the contract to take the initial concepts through to a final design and to construct the terminal has been awarded to Australian-founded company Multiplex.
Expecting to open in late 2026, the airport will also be known as the Nancy-Bird Walton Airport.
Alongside architects Woods Bagot, Arup, and Airbiz, Multiplex “will be engaging local suppliers across a range of trades, and working closely with them to
minimise risk and ensure the highest level of safety on-site,”.
The design has also been praised for its green credentials.
“A climate responsive façade with ample shading and high-performance glass will ensure less energy is needed to keep the terminal at a comfortable temperature all year round,”.
